[es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."
McCain skipped out on Letterman to go see Katie Couric, and Dave was pissed. Watch below.

I watched that earlier and couldn't believe/absolutely loved how he called him out. And cutting in to the live footage of McCain and Couric? Hilarious and cringe-worthy. Note to self: never cross David Letterman.
Incredible! I love Dave more than any other talk show host. it's a perfect combination of his personality along with being such a staple in the field that he can do that with no concern for the outcome. What has he got to lose? And more importantly, he doesn't care if he does because he's got a point to make.

I made myself stay awake last night for this very reason! It was worth seeing again as well. Thanks for putting it up.
